Joell Baxter is a sculptor/drawer/printmaker who was born in Washington DC, raised in Evanston, Il, and currently resides in Brooklyn, NY. Her recent work conflates sculpture, arts and crafts, drawing, and design, using cyclic systems of color and form to explore the relationship between illusion and object. She earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in 2000 from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she was awarded a University Fellowship, and has recently exhibited at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, Bronx, NY; International Print Center, New York, NY; Regina Rex, Queens, NY; and the Visual Arts Center, Austin, TX. She was a 2011 participant in the Artist in the Marketplace program at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, and in 2011/2012 she was in residence at the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council's Workspace Program. She is currently completing a Special Editions Residency at the Lower Eastside Printshop, New York, NY.
